Thunder On The Rails Video Review

Welcome Back to Legacies On The Rails! I have been meaning to post this for some time now but I’ve been working 9-12 hour days recently and time alone to be able to concentrate on it.

Recently I picked up over 50 Railroad VHS tapes at a yard sale for just $10.00 and already had several in my collection prior to that so my plan is to begin doing reviews on them.

Though I may not be able to do it from actually watching the VHS tapes as while my family and I were on vacation back in July, the remote that changes the modes on our living room TV somehow disappeared.

But I have found You Tube Videos of several of them so I will likely be watching them as I did with this one.

Thunder On The Rails Copyright 1990 by Skyfire of Reno, Nevada and distributed by Superior Productions Inc is 30 minutes long.

It brings You along on a trip on the Trans-Sierra Donner Pass Route named after the wagon-train company that was trapped there in the 1800’s.

It begins with some diesel action by the Southern Pacific.

It soon switches to steam at the Rail Museum in Carson, Nevada showing You the Virginia & Truckee Railroad and the Nevada Northern #40. You see lots of rolling stock including a weigh-master car, smoking and non-smoking passenger cars.

You get to check out the hand-operated turnstile used to rotate steam engines from one track to another (as opposed to the automated turntable used by most.)

It has great sound and visual quality. The only issue I saw (not sure if it was specifically with You Tube or the video that was uploaded) was some cutting out at 25:12 into the production. As You can see I included the You Tube video for Your enjoyment as I will do with future review posts when one is available.

You get to see shots taken with a camera mounted to the locomotive’s side rail and various other parts. You watch it pulling forward as well as backing up to switch tracks. There was even a flat car in the consist from which passengers could enjoy a completely open air view of their surroundings on the route.

My Family had such an experience a few years back on the Midland Railway in Baldwin City, Kansas. It was the best for taking pics and video.

So check out Thunder On The Rails! As I’m well known for saying on radio shows and such over the years….. You’ll Be Glad Ya’ Did!

Thanks for joining me today! Until next time, this is John Losh reminding You to continue following the Lord Jesus Christ every day of Your life, and when it comes to Trains, and everything that is Railroading, Continue Leaving Legacies…On The Rails!
